I live on Cork Street in Dublins south inner city and I have become fascinated with the whole concept of Urban and Street photography. This is the landscape that I am presented with every day so it would seem foolish not to photograph it! What intrigues me most about Cork Street is the amount of redundant and derelict buildings set in the midst of new developments of Apartments and convenience shops. This has inspired me to photograph them - photos to follow!!!
I came across James Wakefield http://www.urban-exposure.com/ whilst researching Urban Photography. His images were of great interest to me as his projects Urban Decay: 'the dereliction and dilapidation of a previously inhabited urban existence' and Urban Spray: 'the art of the street' are two areas that I wish to pursue. The image below from James Wakefield, simply titled 'Fred's', captures the very essence of Urban photography. I also love the fact he shot this using a 35mm Film camera.

LET THE JOURNEY BEGIN ....
Well there is no turning back now! I have entertained the idea of studying photography for many years but it never materialised, so I am now fully committed to this 'journey' and I am looking forward to all that it brings.
In the art of photography I am possibly the person who is the least practised and experienced in the class. The first few weeks have been overwhelming, terrifying but also extremley informative and exciting. I have been introduced to so many photographers and styles it is almost impossible to absorb it all, but absorb it I will and hopefully I'll come out the other side all the better for it!

WELCOME TO REBEL RED
This is the first post on my first ever blog!! The reason why I have started a blog is to document my learning experience whilst studying part-time for a Diploma in Photography at Griffith College Dublin. I have had an interest in photography for a long time and have always appreciated and admired it as an art form. However, I myself never experimented or delved into learning about different techniques in order to get more creative images. Over the course of the next year I am hoping that this will all change!
I work full time so the free time I have will be to fully immerse myself in this new photographic experience. I'm looking forward to being introduced to different techniques, different styles, and come across photographers that will influence the style that I will eventually adapt. Hopefully by the end of the year my passion for photography will be enhanced and I will become a confident photographer.
